Elizabeth R. "Betty" Frick

Viewing/Service: Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Rhome Funeral Home Inc., family owned and operated as a member of the Golden Rule, 1209 Grand Blvd. Monessen, where friends will be welcomed from 2-4 and 6-8, Friday, August 1st. Additional visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. , the time of service, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Monessen on Saturday, August 2nd.

Interment will follow in the Salem Church Cemetery,

Obituary:

Elizabeth R. "Betty" Frick, 87, of Rostraver Twp. passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 in Jefferson Regional Health Center.

She was born February 9, 1927 in Monessen, a daughter of the late Ralph Meyer and Floretta Steiner Meyer.

Betty had moved to Rostraver Twp. around 1940, and remained there on Salem Church Rd. until the last ten years, when she moved to Cedar Hills. She was a graduate of Rostraver High School with the class of 1945. She was a member of the High School Band, as well as her father's band in her teens. Music was Betty's life. She sang in the "Harmonettes Trio", the St. Paul's Church Choir, where she was also the organist for many years, and entertained for Nursing Homes. Betty had directed, produced, and sang on "Showboat" for many years. She was also well known for her yodeling, whether it was on "Showboat", volunteer functions, or the school bus. Betty also shared her musical talents by singing at many weddings and funerals as well as being a guest vocalist at many other Church's in addition to her own.

She worked at Fort Pitt Foundry during High School, The Valley Independent as a Line Type Operator, was the Society Editor for the Donora Newspaper, where she had met and interviewed President Truman, drove a school bus for the Ringold School District, was a dispatcher for Elizabeth Forward School District, and ended her work career as a Manager for Laidlaw Transportation.

Betty was always concerned about others. She was a very active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Monessen, was a Luther League Advisor, Sunday School Teacher with The Class of Ruth, WELCA, and member of the Church Council, in addition to her duties as the Church Organist and Choir Director. She also had been a Girl Scout Leader in the 1950's

 

Surviving are her husband of nearly 67 years, Alvin C. Frick, Daughter- Rhonda R. and husband Bill Holly of Glenmoore, PA, Son-Alvin J. and wife Susan Frick of Metz, WVA, Grandchildren- Ryan L. Cannon of Pottstown, PA, Randee R. and husband Ed Kovatch of Glenmoore, PA, Joshua and wife Joanna Frick of Pittsburgh, PA, Jared Frick of Metz, WVA, Great grandchildren- Shane Barton of Spring City, PA, Alicia and Amanda Cannon, both of West Chester, PA Leland Cannon of Pottstown, PA, Clayton, McKenna Elizabeth (her namesake) and Greyson Kovatch of Glenmoore, PA, Aeris Frick and Aisley Frick.of Metz, WVA

She was preceded in death by her only brother- John Ronald Meyer of Colorado
