Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the RHOME FUNERAL HOME INC., 1209 Grand Blvd. Monessen, where friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Panachida Services will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Friday followed by a 10 a.m. Divine Liturgy at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church of Monessen with Father Stephen Wahal officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Rostraver Township. A Parish Rosary and Panachida will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at funeral home. Members of the Mid Mon Valley Shipmates will conduct a Two Bell Ceremony at 2:30 Thursday at funeral home.
Obituary:
Fred E. Kernisky, 88, of Monessen, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018, in Mon Valley Hospital, Carroll Township. He was born in Monessen, on March 1, 1930, a son of the late George and Mary Knapp Kernisky. Mr. Kernisky had worked as a Welder for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Monessen Plant and following his retirement he worked for many years with the area agency on aging delivering meals on wheels. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church of Monessen and had been a member of the former Holy Name Society within the church. He was a man of strong faith and had a great appreciation of life. Mr. Kernisky most enjoyed spending time with his family and was a formidable golfer and avid wine maker. In his youth he was a talented baseball pitcher perused by the minor leagues. Everyone he met became his friend. Mr. Kernisky served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Eldorado. As a veteran, he was a member of the Mid Mon Valley Shipmates. Surviving are his wife, Dolores Vernet Kernisky; a daughter, Mary Kay Kelly; two sons, Fred and wife Mary Jane Kernisky and Ed and wife Rita Kernisky; three grandchildren, Fred, Maria and husband Tim Campbell and Eddie; two great-grandchildren, Nina and Nolan; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by, two brothers, John Kernisky and George Kernisky; and five sisters, Helen Dragun, Mary Selestak, Anne Gillingham, Margaret Troyan and Agnes Sirochman.
