Viewing/Services:

Friends will be received from 4-8pm at Rhome Funeral Home in Monessen, PA on Wednesday, October 9, 2019.  A Trisagion service will be held that evening at 7pm.  Additional visitation will be held at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church in Monessen, PA on Thursday, October 10, 2019 from 10-10:45am until the time of the service celebrating Gus's life at 11am with Father George Livanos officiating.  Interment will follow at Belle Vernon Cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church; 119 St. Spyridon Lane, Monessen, PA 15062.

 


Obituary:

Gus George Drizos Sr., 93, of Washington, PA, formerly of Monessen, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Jefferson Hospital in Jefferson Hills, PA.
The proud son of immigrants from the island of Chios, Greece, Gus was born on April 9, 1926 in Monessen, PA to the late George and Mary (Maris) Drizos.  He was married to Catherine (Koulepis) Drizos on July 18, 1954 at Kimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church in Aliquippa, PA. 
Gus was a 1944 graduate of Monessen High School and then was drafted into the United States Army during World War II where he served his country proudly.  He traveled throughout Europe to Scotland, England, France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, and Czechoslovakia.  After returning from his service, Gus graduated from the Douglas School of Business.  He was the co-owner of American Cleaners, a family dry cleaning/laundry operation in the Mon Valley.  An active member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, Gus was a member of the choir and AHEPA.  He was also a member of the American Legion for 74 years.  During his retirement years, Gus enjoyed gardening and spending quality time with his family.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 65 years, Catherine K. Drizos of Washington, PA; son Gus (Karen) Drizos Jr. of Indian Land, SC and daughter Maureen (Clark) Landgraff of Washington, PA; and five grandchildren Alex (Beth Ann) Drizos, Anthony (Jenna) Drizos, Sam (fiancée Andrea) Drizos, Katina Landgraff, and Evan Landgraff.  He is also survived by a sister-in-law Jean K. Drizos and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gus was preceded in death by his brother James Drizos, sister Irene (Drizos) Lykos, and brother-in-law Thomas J. Lykos.
