Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Rhome Funeral Home Inc., 1209 Grand Blvd. Monessen, where friends will be welcomed on Friday from 1-3 and 6-8 pm. A Blessing Service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at the Epiphany of Our Lord Church of Monessen, with Fr. Michael Crookston officiating. Entombment will follow at the Grandview Cemetery Mausoleum of Monessen.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society in Mr. Sepesky's name.
James A. "Mayor" Sepesky, 82, of Monessen, passed away on March 1, 2022 in Penn Highlands Mon Valley HospitalHe was born in North Belle Vernon on November 28, 1939, a son of the late Andrew and Jeanne Ray Sepesky.Jim was a 1957 Graduate of Monessen High School, and had received a Bachelors' Degree in Education from California University of PA, and his Masters Degree from West Virginia University. He had been employed with the South Allegheny School District prior to his retirement.Jim was a man of strong faith, and a member of the former Most Holy Name of Jesus, and presently the Epiphany of Our Lord Church of Monessen where he served as a Lector, and was a member of the Holy Name Society... He was also a member of the Monessen Knights of Columbus and a Life Member of the Monessen BPOE Elks #773, having served as Exulted Ruler. Jim had Umpired for many years in Youth Baseball Leagues, and was a true fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Mayor was extremely family oriented and enjoyed attending all of his grandchildren's events. He had served on the Monessen City School Board from 1967-1973, was a Monessen City Councilman from 1973-1977, and concluded his political career by becoming Mayor of Monessen in 1977 and held office until 1989. He had served in the Pennsylvania League of Cities as vice chair of the "U-Comp" and also as Assistant Treasure, Mon Valley Transit Authority, and the Board of Directors of Diversified Human Services. He was also on the executive board of the Legislative Fifth District.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers- Vincent and Andrew Sepesky, and a sister- JoAnn Core.Surviving are his wife- Carol Victoria Sepesky, and their children- James and wife Kelly Sepesky, Scott and wife Kristen Sepesky, Victoria and husband Kevin Iacovangelo, and David and wife Taylor Sepesky. Eight grandchildren- Julian Sepesky, Kolby Sepesky and fianc'e Tim Tyree, Leo Iacovangelo, Sam Iacovangelo, Mason Sepesky, Olivia Sepesky, Zoey Sepesky, and Damien Sepesky. Sisters- Romona Sapone, Nida Sungala, Karen and husband Vince Salotti, and Valeria Crevier. Sister in law- Emma Kotch. Also surviving are numerous Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins.
