Viewing: Friends will be received at the Rhome Funeral Home, Inc., 1209 Grand Blvd. Monessen, on Thursday from 2-8pm
Service: Prayers will begin on Friday morning at 10:30am in the funeral home followed by services at 11am in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, Monessen, with Fr. Joseph DiStefano,officiating.
A Trisagion service will be held in the Funeral Home Thursday evening at 7:30pm.
Interment: Internment will follow at Grandview Cemetery.
Obituary:
Joan K. Vassilakis, 93, of Ligonier, formerly of Monessen, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2015 in Bethlen Care Center, Ligonier.
She was born December 31, 1921 in Sabraton WV, Daughter of the late Michael John and Kaliope Kacanis Kougioulis
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, a brother John Kougioulis, three sisters, Sophia Papandreas, Mary Nicholudis, Bessie Tsoucaris, and a son in law Robert G. Chan.
Survivors include three daughters, Peggy Chan of Monessen, Georgia Vassilakis of Pittsburgh, and Denise Douglas (Wayne) of Austin TX., four Grand sons, Robert Chan of Pittsburgh, Jonas Chan of Central City, Christopher Douglas of Austin TX, and Michael Douglas of Austin TX.
Joan was a former book keeper for the City of Monessen, and a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church in Monessen.
Her entire life was devoted to her family .
