Obituary:
Kirk began his life on November 14th 1967 within minutes of his identical twin brother, Kenneth Edward. He attended California University of PA receiving his BSW and continued on to the University of Pittsburgh where he received his MSW. He found his niche’ as a Psychiatric social worker and began his career helping others. He was employed by SWPA Diversified Human Services in the Partial Program, Brownsville Hospital and Jefferson Regional Hospital.
He and Renea, his wife, and her daughter, Heather, started their lives together on October 24th, 1998. They filled their home with love and laughter and on October 23rd, 2002, their son, Alex was born.
Kirk touched many lives. He was quick to compliment and carried with him a calm strength. He cherished his friends and fiercely loved his wife and family. He did not let his illness stop him from living life and making memories. He especially enjoyed fishing and most recently attended an annual fishing trip with his nephews, RJ and Eric at the opening of the 2013 trout season. There he watched his son reel in a prize winning catch. Fishing stories among the Danko boys are certainly not in short supply!
Kirk enjoyed all sports including Steeler’s football. Sunday was football day at the Danko house! Most games were watched with his nephews and brothers and throughout the season a few others would fill the man cave. Attending Alex’s soccer and baseball games filled evenings and weekends. When not attending sporting events or watching the big game, Kirk could be found with a pool cue in hand playing at one of his many leagues. He enjoyed the camaraderie and friendly competition.
Yet, of all his accomplishments, of all the fights he fought, of all the things he acquired, the one thing that gave him the greatest joy was becoming a father. Being a Dad was that one thing of which he was most proud.
He did not complain. He did not give up. With courage and determination, he held love and strength and perseverance as his armor. He was a Christian and loved God and sought to bestow love on all around him. He was dedicated to living. He is a son, husband, father, grandfather, nephew, uncle and friend.
Kirk was a member of the Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church of Monessen, the Monessen Hungarian Club Pool League, as well as many other Pool Leagues, and the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother- Kenneth E. Danko in 1999.
In addition to those aforementioned, surviving are his son- Alex Danko, a grandson- Chase, his parents- Ronald E. and Joyce Sutherland Danko, two brothers- Ronald W. and Darren W. Danko, and several nieces and nephews.
