Viewing: Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Rhome Funeral Home Inc., family owned and operated as a member of the Golden Rule, 1209 Grand Blvd. Monessen where friends will be welcomed from 6-8, Wednesday, February 18 and 1-3 and 6-8 Thursday February 19.
Service: Friday, February 20th A Blessing Service at 9:30 a.m. in funeral home followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church in Belle Vernon w/ Msng. Roger Statnick officiating.
Entombment will follow in the Grandview Cemetery, Monessen, PA 15062.
Obituary:
Matthew Canestrale, 84 of Monessen, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 15, 2015 in Mon Valley Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born September 12, 1930 in Monessen, a son of the late Michael and Libera Lombardo Canestrale.
Mr. Canestrale was the Owner/Operator, and President of Matt Canestrale Contracting and CECC: and Mon River Transloading Matt was a lifelong resident of Monessen, and was a business man whom owned and operated the Sanitary Landfill. His company's were influential in developing barge transportation on the Monongahela River that benefitted the community.
Matt was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather to his family
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Lorraine Caterino Canestrale, Daughters- Doreen Canestrale Dilegge and husband Alan, and Darlene Canestrale Pabis, Daughter in law-Mary Lou Canestrale, Grandchildren-Alan Matthew Dilegge and wife Theresa, Dean Dilegge and wife Jackie, Dana Dilegge Marchines and husband John, Ryan Pabis and wife Stephanie Pabis, RJ Pabis and wife Dawn Pabis, Erick Pabis and fianc'e Krystal, Alyssa Canestrale, and Mia Canestrale. Great grandchildren-Deandra and AJ Dilegge, Nina Marchines, Parker Pabis, Gabriella Pabis, Eli Pabis, Cason Pabis, and Talan Pabis. A brother-Joseph Canestrale, and sisters-Mary Bednar, Anne Single, Theresa Peters,and sister in law- LaVerne Fordanich, Numerous Nieces and Nephews.
He was preceded in death by His only son- Matthew Canestrale Jr.
