Viewing/Service: Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Rhome Funeral Home Inc., family owned and operated as a member of the Golden Rule, 1209 Grand Blvd. Monessen, where friends will be welcomed from 1-3 pm and 6-8 pm, Thursday, July
28. Additional visitation will be held on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church of Monessen prior to funeral services, with Fr. Joseph Cervo officiating.
Entombment will follow in the Grandview Cemetery Mausoleum of Monessen.
Obituary:
Pantelis "Pete" N. Vatakis, 93, of Monessen, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 in Mon Valley Hospital. He was born March 23,1923 in Vavili, Chios, Greece a son of the late Nicholas Vatakis and Angeliki Houzouri.
Pete was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church of Monessen. He was an avid gardener, and enjoyed traveling to Greece often. Pete had been a part owner of the Union Cleaners in Monessen, and had worked there until his retirement.
Surviving are his wife- Vera Chaviaras Vatakis, a daughter- Angel Vatakis, and sister- Marika and husband Stavros Karatzas. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters- Aphroditi Caviris, Virginia Kambouras, Dimetrios Vatakis, George Vatakis, Kosta Vatakis, and Fragoula Argiroudi.
