Viewing:Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Rhome Funeral Home Inc., family owned and operated as a member of the Golden Rule, 1209 Grand Blvd. Monessen, where friends will be welcomed on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and Friday from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m.
Service: Funeral services will be held in the funeral
home on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with Rev Kenneth Jones officiating.
Interment will follow in the Beallsville Cemetery.
Obituary:
R. Lee Jones, 87 of Monessen, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 in Mon Valley Hospital. He was born April 14, 1928 in Monessen a son of the late Edwin Clifford and Kathryn E. Frye Jones. He was a graduate of Monessen High School in 1947 and a graduate of California University of Pennsylvania. He was employed for 25 years in the Marketing Dept. of the Peoples Natural
Gas Co. where his position at retirement was Manager of Economical
Development. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Monessen where he had served as a Liturgist and was a member of the Church Choir. He had delivered "Meals On Wheels" in Monessen for many years. He was a member of the Monessen Board of Education for over 30 years and served as President at several times Mr. Jones was a charter member of the Westmoreland County Community College Board of Trustees and held the position for 25 years. Mr. Jones was the first delegate from Monessen to serve on the Board of the Mon Valley Vocational Technical School in Speers. He was an original member and Treasurer of the Monessen Community Development Corporation, and member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Monessen Elks BPOE #773. Mr. Jones was also a member of the former Monessen Kiwanis Club, having served as President. Lee enjoyed serving as Master of Ceremonies at class reunions and community functions. He was an avid card player, and enjoyed attending High School football and basketball games.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years- Lois Parkinson Jones, and Son- Thomas L. Jones, of Monessen, Grandchildren- Matthew and wife Lea Jones, Kathryn and husband Josh Lazzari, and Nicholas Jones, a Brother-Clifford E. Jones of Monessen and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother- Edwin Jones, in addition to his parents.
