A celebration and reflection of the life of Mrs. Farr will be held on Saturday, January 12 from 1-3pm at the Rhome Funeral Home Inc. 1209 Grand Blvd. Monessen.

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Farr's name are requested to the Monessen Public Library in lieu of flowers.

Obituary:

Marjorie A. Farr, age 94, of Monessen passed away on January 7, 2019 at the Residence at Hilltop, Carroll Twp.

She was born in Warren Ohio on February 12, 1924, daughter of the late John Ure and Gertrude Woodcock Anderson, and moved to Monessen in 1948.

Marge was a graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School, Mt. Holyoke College, and the California State Teachers College.  She was a Board Member of the PA State Education Association, National Education Association, and the Monessen Public Library. She was president of the Monessen teachers’ union and worked for better pay and benefits for teachers.

Mrs. Farr taught in the Monessen Public School District for 30 years prior to her retirement.  She cared deeply for the students she taught.  Mrs. Farr touched many lives in her career, and is fondly remembered by many.

Known for her sense of humor, Marge had a quick wit and a ready laugh, making her loved by all.  She was a feminist before the word was popular and advocated for the rights of all.

Marge was an avid reader and belonged to several book clubs, including the YMCA and the Monessen Public Library.  She also greatly enjoyed crossword puzzles.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert L. "Bear" Farr and her daughter Ann B. Farr.

Surviving are her daughter Susie Farr and son Bob and wife Sally Farr, grandson Matt and step granddaughter Dana.

Bob and Susie want to expressed their gratitude to the staff at the Residence at Hilltop for their loving care of Marge for many years.
