Viewing: Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Rhome Funeral Home Inc., family owned and operated asa member of the Golden Rule, 1209 Grand Blvd. Monessen, where friends will be welcomed from 1-3 and 6-8, Sunday, March 13

Service: A Blessing Service will be held at the funeral home Monday, March 14, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at the Epiphany of Our Lord Church with Fr. Michael Crookston officiating.

Interment will follow in the Sacared Heart Cemetery, Monongahela.

Contributions may be made to the St. Jude Childrens Foundation through the funeral home in lieu.of flowers.

 

Obituary:

Stephen A. Opalko, 67 of Monessen, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2016. He was born April 25, 1948 in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Michael and Mary Petruska Opalko.

Steve honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1967-1971 aboard the USS Neechies. His service entailed three tours of Viet Nam, as well as, Hawaii and Japan. He worked as a Railroad Inspector for Norfolk Southern Railroad. Steve loved Coaching Youth Sports and watching girls and boys grow into
adulthood. He had Coached Donora Youth Soccer for eight years, Monongahela Wildcats Football for 20 years, Monongahela Red Birds Baseball for 5 years, and Ringgold High School Freshman Football and Baseball for 3 years.

Steve's passion in life was his family, and watching his Pittsburgh sports teams, especially the Steelers. His greatest love in life were his grandchildren. Surviving are his wife, Jo-Ann Carbone Opalko, Two sons- Douglas and wife Renee Opalko of Monessen and Todd Opalko of Monongahela, Jackie Opalko of New Eagle. Five grandchildren- Triston, Sydney, Danica, Dominic, and Antonio. Sisters- Bernadette Hull and husband Russell of Pittsburgh, Mary
Ann Iannacchione and husband Leo of Pittsburgh, Agnes Helinski and husband Raymond of Perryopolis, a Brother- Michael Opalko and wife Michelle of Pittsburgh. Sister in law- Kathleen Carbone of Monongahela, brother in law-Richard and wife Jeanne Carbone of Monongahela, and numerous nieces and nephews.
